Delaney Statement on Government Shutdown
FRIENDSHIP HEIGHTS, MD – Congress adjourned Friday before reaching a budget agreement ahead of a midnight deadline to fund numerous government agencies, beginning a partial shutdown that will impact services and send nearly 400,000 federal employees home without pay.
Congressman John K. Delaney (MD-6) releases the following statement on the government shutdown:
“Shutting down the government on the eve of the holiday season isn’t just reckless, it’s irresponsible and cruel. Tying the funding of our government to the building of an unnecessary and inefficient wall is further proof that the President is anything but a great deal maker. I hope my Republican colleagues in Congress will find it in their hearts to embrace the holiday spirit and do what we all know is right, keep our government open.”
Delaney is a cosponsor of legislation (H.R. 7368) that guarantees back pay to furloughed government workers.
